I recently went to the Canary Island, Gran Canaria, to celebrate the end of my AS exams. Although I do love relaxing during the day on holiday, I am definitely more of an evening person when it comes to a summer holiday. I find that during the afternoon in the heat, I begin to feel sticky from all the suncream, too hot even in the shade and fed up of finding sand EVERYWHERE. I much prefer freshening up and feeling more ‘put together’ in the evening and deciding on my outfits ready for dinner and evening walks. The hotel we stayed at wasn’t what I would consider posh but people still made the effort to ‘dress up’ for dinner, so therefore I decided to share a few of my favourite (affordable) outfits that I wore.
My ALL TIME favourite outfit has to be wearing these gorgeous yellow trousers. Currently I am loving the culotte trend which has recently become increasingly popular this year and also the colour yellow has been all over the high street, and these trousers combine these two perfectly. I just LOVE everything about these, the length, leg shape, the fact they have pockets and the side tie which helps to accentuate the waist and is very useful if like me, you have a smaller waist so you can adjust it for a closer fit. I could not leave these behind and I was so impressed with the price since they were only £19.99 from Zara (similar). The outer chiffon style fabric and lining gives them a good drape and makes them swish around, perfect for a summer holiday where the evening can begin to start feeling cooler, but you still want to look summery. I paired them with a dark green, tight fitting, high neck crop top which complimented the outfit well. I did not want the outfit to be too dressy so I finished it off with some white, converse-style lace up trainers; however I think pairing them with some heeled sandals would be prefect for more of a dressy outfit.
Another favourite trend of mine is embroidery, yet surprisingly I did not actually own any embroidered pieces, until I saw these on Boohoo. The top is a V-neck cami style, making a perfect frame for a dainty layered choker necklace to compliment the outfit. The red contrasting embroidery really is the statement feature which gives that summer garden party vibe. Online, the model has been styled by pairing this with black accessories; usually I would be skeptical about due to it being too harsh or making me looked washed out. However, I wore this with some black strappy heels and a floppy hat just like the image and felt it really made the look more impactful. I think this piece would also look really elegant with an arm cuff, I found this one from New Look which I think would really compliment the look.
The first summer stripe outfit was a more relaxed evening look. I went for wearing these black pinstripe trousers with a folded hem from Pull & Bear since they are super comfy and easy to wear. To add some colour I wore a pink, cami style V-neck crop top which I got from Hollister a few years ago (similar item linked) as it is simple and really soft to wear, as I wanted to go for something comfy this particular evening. As the evening got cooler I wore my light wash denim jacket, a summer wardrobe NECESSITY which added to the ‘cool’ style I was hoping to pull off. To accessorise I wore white fishnet ankle socks (Primark) and the white lace up trainers previously mentioned, along with a thin black velvet choker layered with a dainty silver charm necklace. To complete the ‘edgy’ look I wore my black fashion glasses which I got from Amazon to add a little something extra.
My other striped summer outfit included a black and white stripe cami swing top with high neck and racer back (similar). I tried it at the front into a knot to create a relaxed feel. I paired this with a black maxi skirt with a slit on one side, made from a chiffon style material that had a miniskirt underlining. I accessorised with my classic Tiffany heart charm necklace and a colourful beaded bracelet which matched my silver beaded sandals I bought a few years ago (similar).
Hopefully this gave you some summer outfit inspiration and an insight into various ways to style outfits for summer. One of the great things I love about fashion and outfit creating is how easy they are to adapt for different occasions, like how each could be dressed down to be worn during the day. Despite being back from holiday now I am always looking out for new pieces so do let me know if you see anything you think I might love!
